Photography and the Art of Seeing by Freeman Patterson

This book talks about the importance of understanding things around us and having reasoning to capturing something. Within the book it says ‘It was Monet, the painter, who said that in order to see we must forget the name of the thing we are looking at’, I find this quote very interesting and when applying it to ‘a sense of place’ and my project I believe it doesn’t work, because I want to know exactly what my friends are doing while capturing them, and I want to remember it when looking back at photographs. I find if you are capturing scenery your thoughts while capturing will be completely different to thoughts you have while capturing friends or loved ones.
