Brand style guides

As part of my creative marketing report and the rebranding of Gosh I researched different brand style guides which helped to see what needs to be included when rebranding. This helped to see what needed to be consistent throughout the style of the brand. I chose fonts, colours and other aspects of the brand.

Social media campaign

Included in my creative marketing report for Gosh I came up with a social media campaign for their mix and fix range. I researched other campaigns that I wrote about in my sketchbook and presented my research. For the social media campaign I made a list of bloggers who would be involved in the campaign, came up with a brief for them as well as designing a PR package that would be sent out. I included some primary research in my sketchbook of beauty press releases that get sent to my work.

Rebranding

After researching beauty trends and other beauty brands, I started to redesign the packaging for the mix and fix drops. This also includes re designing the logo for Gosh. I experimented with different designs before deciding on my final designs for the mix and fix bottles. As well as the redesign of these products I used trend forecasting to come up with some new product concepts.

Final major project

For my final major project I set myself a brief.

For this final major project my hypothetical brief is as follows. Gosh Cosmetics want me to come up with a concept for a new marketing campaign and creative marketing report to keep their brand more up to date.

The report should include creative direction for overall branding, website, social media. Product repackaging suggestions as well as new product launch ideas in line with beauty trends and competitors. Social media marketing campaign as well as creative direction for this and PR packages.

They want the brand to stay relevant and ahead of the their competitors which isn’t the case at the moment -from looking at social media following and engagement, their product range and the frequency of their product launches.

I started out looking at beauty trends from WGSN and other beauty brands. I then wanted to see how GOSH held up against these trends already and where they might be lacking. I also compared their brand to some others.

Street Art

I wanted my campaign to appeal to younger men, who may be interested in music, skating, street culture. I took photos around Brighton of different graffiti and street art. From this I also looked at pop art by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. I did some experiments drawing my own imagery in pop art styles that can be seen in my sketchbook.

Mental Health

After looking at body positivity and how some campaign fall short. I wanted to look at mental health issues for my project. Particularly mens mental health, as its still hard for men to open up about their feelings, depression and their general mental health. I wanted to create a campaign to get men talking about these issues more rather than keeping quiet.

Body Positive Instagrams

https://www.instagram.com/mamacaxx/

I looked at more body positive posts on Instagram and did research into body positive campaigns. Some articles talked about how many campaigns fall short because of the fact that they still focus on the body and even when they have varied body types in their campaigns they often are still a ‘certain type’ of body shape etc.

A lot of the body image campaigns fall short, still focusing on the body and that you need to be happy with your body. You don’t need to be happy with your body to be happy in yourself. There’s more to people than their bodies. What else makes us beautiful and happy with ourselves – our personality traits

Here are the articles I read about how these campaigns often fall short.

This research then led me to think about mental health issues as it is very linked to body issues.

Harpers Bazaar

I looked into feminist figures through the 20th and 21st century. Harpers Bazaar article celebrating women who have shaped feminism for Internationale Women’s Day.
These women have had different levels of involvement in shaping feminism
The article starts with The Suffragettes who fought for women’s rights. Their ACTIVISM allowed women nationwide the right to vote in 1920.
All of these women in this article have contributed to shaping feminism and have brought different issues to light or celebrated the positive.

Pussy Riot

Pussy Riot’s music video I mentioned in my previous post

One image from the video that stood out to me was the ideal body proportions scene. Two trump/police figures picking apart a women body and measuring up against a cartoon drawing of the ideal woman. This got me thinking more about body image issues that affect women every single day. I always come across body positivity posts on Instagram. #bopo is the tag that people use for body positivity on Instagram. Women take photos of their bodies that they deem ‘imperfect’ in some way usually and celebrate what they media shames and bashes. Stretch marks, body hair, different body shapes, rolls, cellulite. All these things the media says we shouldn’t have to be attractive and sexually desirable. This body positive trend or ‘movement’ is starting to chip away at these ‘ideals’ but it is so ingrained into everyday life and peoples thinking that it seems hard to make a big impact without mainstream media and brands doing enough to follow suit. This is obviously the way the media and brands feed off of consumers., You’re not right, you need to fix this this and this about you. Buy our products/clothes/etc and you’ll be desirable.
