Portfolio Promotion Reflection Post

I am really thankful for the portfolio promotion module as it made me value my work as a whole rather than individual pieces, as well as encouraging myself to promote me as a brand. Ive always liked promoting and defining a brand, therefore this was a fun chance to do something I have loved.

I did struggle, however within the last few months. Because of the coronavirus etc it meant that I wasn’t able to submit my work physically, and some of the aspects such as postcard and business card aren’t done justice on the screen!

I also had to look after my youngest sister because both my parents are key workers and I had to help out in the circumstances. This meant I had to find a new way of working, in short bursts of energy more often rather than long periods of time which I was usually used to. Although this sounds really small, it really made an impact on how I was working but I eventually adapted to it and got things done.

After university, I am hoping to follow a career of marketing, pr and promotion and I have really enjoyed that and felt it was really strong. I really want to do this for a brand, I think I could strengthen and continue a brand identity really well.

Final Major Project: Reflection on Finished Pieces & Favourites

Although I am disappointed that I did not get to progress through with my event, I found the process of my final major project really fun and rewarding. I felt that I learnt how to work with different brands and showcase all of the skills I have in promotion. I have also learn a lot about working to a professional standard as I worked with actual businesses.

My favourite photo from whole project was my picture of Cat for Love From x, I took, styled, edited and imaged this picture therefore I am really happy with it, it fulfils its purpose and also shows a bit about me and my style of working.

My favourite promotional piece is the stickers and polaroids from Family Photo (I cant choose). If I were to attend this event I would love to keep a polaroid of me and whoever I took the photo with, I thought it was a really fun to create keepsakes, reflecting family store’s way of working. I also really liked thinking of different types of family for the stickers.

My favourite social media piece was the instagram stories I made, I really liked the one of Ellie where I combined a boomerang and photo to add a bit of depth and make it interesting. I think it looks really nice and goes with the theme of my lookbook as well as fits in with ruby moon’s branding.

My favourite overall outcome is my review pieces for Magazine Brighton. This really tested me as I am not the best at writing reviews, and I have never done it before. But they were only bite sized chunks, and I have found that this way I like to read my own writing!

If I were to improve my work, I think I would just do more. There is no such thing as too much promotion, so I wouldve gone into more depth and explored every avenue. I would have really liked to have done some TV adverts, but didn’t have enough time.

Instagram Gifs Created for Ruby Moon

I created these Instagram stories that were to be posted on @rubymoonswim before the Love From x look book was released. Some are still images, some are moving (these are the linked below).

I tried to make these as interesting as possible to be eye catching whilst the audience is flicking through stories. I also tried to include audience interactivity for example a countdown to when it is released and a question.

Instagram Stories Gifs and Creations for Family Store

As apart of the promotional material for my event, I created Gifs and Instagram stories for Family Photo. These would be posted on the Family Store Instagram (@familystoreuk), unfortunately the posting of these had to be postponed with the event, however once coronavirus has been lifted and the store is reopened I am talking with them to re launch the event.

These were inspired to be quick and simple, with just some photo animation on the story to catch peoples attention where they could go click onto the profile and read more information.

Final Major Project: Producing Physical Designs

I have decided to not delay producing my physical work, but to get it sent to me and video it on my blog. This means as soon as I am able to showcase my work I can, and it does not affect my quality. Unfortunately, looking at it on a digital screen doesn’t cut it!

This would include designs from my lookbook, magazine as well as stickers from family photo.

Nearing the end of my project, the most important steps is finalising my work and for me seeing it is really promising.

I am also mailing a copy to each of the brands for them to give me feedback on.

Final Major Project: Issu

Because I couldn’t distribute my outcomes physically, I decided to post my finished products for Ruby Moon and Magazine Brighton on Issu so that people can still access them. Although the main aim of my project is physical promotion, this is the next best thing.

Im really happy that although im not able to share a physical copy of my work, it is still able to be viewed.

Final Major Project: Planning the Event

During these weeks, since my look book is done I am mostly focusing on the promotional accompaniments for Family Photo by Family Store.

It was really hard to create a poster and I have experimented with very different designs, but after chris’ feedback and looking at family store merchandise I found a fun creative way to create a poster. I had alot of different versions but they all progressed into my final.

I also really enjoyed creating Stickers and other fun merchandise to give out at my event, these stickers are promotional as they have family photo and other fun sayings on them will hopefully customers will share with their friends and on social media. This is the sticker book:

Final Major Project: Event Cancelled

After speaking with the brands, it has been no easy decision to postpone releasing the promotion and cancelling the event. With the store closed, it would not be possible to put on the event.

This means that my project will still go in the direction towards creating the promotional material and planning the event but it will not happen. Hopefully in the near future Family Store will allow me to run the event.

This has been a major set back in my project however it is no ones fault and I just have to work on the promotional material until the time comes!
