Piñatex is a company that produces non-woven, high sustainable materials that result in a low environmental impact on our planet though-out the whole production chain. Dr. Carmen Hijosa, originally from Spain, founded the company in 1990 with a vision of creating a more sustainable future that unites society with our economy and the environment. Dr. Carmen Hijosa has won awards for her sustainability efforts such as Cartier Women’s Initiative Award (sustainable innovation – 2015) and the Innovate UK women in innovation award (sustainable materials – 2016).  Also the founder talks regularly on panels promoting sustainability in order to increase awareness on this topic. I want to incorporate this idea within my campaign

The raw material that is the base of Piñatex is formed from pineapple harvests. Any leftover biomass from processing the plant leaves can be used as a nutrient-rich natural fertiliser or a biofuel, so nothing is wasted. The sustainable textile can be used to produce footwear and fashion accessories, interior furnishing, automotive upholstery and clothing. Below is a diagram that communicates the process of producing this material.

Below the images show close ups of the pineapple based materials. They show the tactile structure of this textiles which represent the fabrics journey in an abstract way. The pastel and neutral colour pallet is cohesive with the sustainable message that the brand is communicating to its viewer and is also represented through their instagram account, also shown below. I have taken inspiration from this and will incorporate this idea when experimenting with my campaign image.

The Piñatex website uses layout and imagery to represent the brand identity; showing a clean, pure vision whilst showcasing the main product ‘the pineapple’. By looking at the imagery the brand has chosen to promote their brand sits within their ethos of a cleaner supply chain to decrease the environmental impact of the fashion industry. Investigating this brand has inspired me to look at further into creating awareness of sustainability through setting up panels that talk about making the fashion world more sustainable through the use of using alternative materials.
