Privacy notice

For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 2018 (the DPA), PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) and GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations), the data controller is the University of Brighton, Mithras House, Lewes Road, Brighton BN2 4AT.

The university is committed to being transparent about how it collects and uses that data and to meeting its data protection obligations.  Please see our Privacy Notices and Data Protection Policy here: Privacy notices and Record of Processing Activities (brighton.ac.uk) https://www.brighton.ac.uk/about-us/statistics-and-legal/privacy/index.aspx

Google Analytics

The blogs.brighton.ac.uk platform uses the Google Analytics service to monitor visitor traffic and behaviour. This enables us to estimate more accurately the numbers of visitors to particular pages and posts. Google Analytics also measures which country and city people have visited the site from, if they have visited the site previously, what browser they were using, which site they came from, if they clicked on an advert to get to our site and what type of device they were using.

In addition, Google Analytics has the ability to tap into data collected via remarketing and the Google advertising network. No user will be personally identifiable, however this service will collect information about gender, age and areas of interest where appropriate if the user is logged into a Google Account when accessing our site (and that information has been provided to Google when setting up an individual Google Account). Cookies set in this way may be used by Google to display adverts to users on other websites using the Google Advertising Network.

Google Analytics tracking is set globally across the blogs.brighton.ac.uk platform. Separate Google Analytics tracking may also be set on individual blogs within the platform by the administrators of those blogs. Because of this, it is not possible to offer a central opt-out function for Google Analytics on blogs.brighton.ac.uk that will apply to all blogs. However, you can block Google Analytics from tracking your visits yourself using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on – see https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
