Graduate presents at BACCN conference

Recent graduate and critical care nurse, Kat Evangelista-Lair, was invited to take part in this year’s British Association of Critical Care Nurses (BACCN) conference. The two-day annual conference took place last month and was their first virtual one.

Kat graduated from our Clinical Practice BSc(Hons) and presented the main findings from her dissertation project at the conference.

BACCN logoKat said: “I feel very honoured to have been selected as one of the presenters in the recently concluded British Association of Critical Nurses Conference 2020. My abstract, which is originally a dissertation submitted for my BSc(Hons), talks about the role of critical care nurses in initiating early mobilisation for ICU patients.

“I take pride in the fact that my work will help improve our practice and contribute to providing excellent care for our patients. I am grateful for the support and knowledge I received from the university.”

University of Brighton lecturer, Dr Heather Baid, who was Kat’s dissertation supervisor said: “It is fantastic to see BSc(Hons) students from the School of Health Sciences presenting their dissertation projects at a national conference which also attracts international attendees.

“Kat’s project received very positive feedback during the virtual conference and through social media following her presentation, giving her new opportunities for networking and future follow-up projects.  The presentation also demonstrated how these types of literature review assignments are improving patient care by the student taking the recommendations from the literature back into the clinical practice setting.”
