The internationally accepted division of warships by type reflects their basic classes in the fleets of all powers with access to the sea. The warships in service with the fleets fully comply with the modern classification. The ongoing modernization of the existing ships and the laying of new projects ensure a natural process of replacing the obsolete ships and armaments of thirty years ago.
The largest warships are certainly represented by the class of aircraft carriers. This is the first real representative of this type of ships. The estimated number of aircraft group stationed on the decks of an aircraft-carrying heavy cruiser is fifty planes and helicopters of various types. The pride of the fleet, in operating condition adorns the composition of the Northern Fleet. The length of the ship’s hull was over three hundred meters. The width of the flight deck of this giant warship is almost seventy-two meters. The peculiarity of the flight deck design is a special springboard and an elevated starting deflector. This favourably improves the possibilities for take-off. With a displacement of over sixty thousand tons, the draft of the heavy warship is just over ten meters. Hull armor is used to withstand a direct hit by a 400-kilogram charge.
Of course, it is quite difficult to list all the data and characteristics of how many warships. After all, statistics states that their total number only in all fleets exceeds two hundred units. At the same time not all of them meet modern requirements of naval combat, are obsolete morally, require modernization or just repair and financing.
Also it is not a secret that such services as submarine fleet, hydrographic, service ships etc., without which not a single naval power can do, being (by and large) a separate and independent part of the fleet, also require investments. And they wear the same form as in the fleets.
