Postcard’s

A big influence for my work is postcards. They are often pictures of landmarks, scenic views, photographs or drawings that are posted as souvenirs. 1930’s British Carry on/Innuendo Seaside postcard became popular. That used tongue-in-cheek jokes. The popularity of these postcards caused a significant increase in British seaside tourism and had a positive impact on the economy.

My wide collection of postcards:

Alxnder Cook

Dave Thompson

Paul Thurlby

Artist Research/Reflection:Triangulo + Terry Gilliam

Reflecting on Feedback from my Research Project a key point was to explore using different media’s to use in my work, to develop the story told through animation. As well as rethinking the colour and “prettiness” of my Images.

The animation uses a mix of collage to help reflect the gritty tongue in cheek message, with the combination of the use of colour to add to this undertone.

Even though I do not connect with the visual atheistic, I can appreciate the use of practical animation skills as well as the interesting use of collage.

Going forward for FMP

Continue with coastal Seaford and explore coastal erosion more.

Look at more of a darker subject, explore how this related to fashion the links with consumerism and the coast and fashion

Responding to the feedback, the key points I need to work on is:

  • The use of Colour,
  • Further development of animation skills,
  • Strong message needed/animation needs to be more edgy/ gritty
  • More experimentation, experiment with different media

Experiment with mix media animation and collages.

I want to explore textiles and animation.

Reflection

Throughout this project as well as struggling to juggle 3 different projects at the same time, I think I also struggled with engaging with the meaning behind it. I initially chose landscapes as my reference for the research project because I wanted to explore my view in what is ‘Home’ to me in terms of Landscape, I struggle to think that we are only allowed to feel at home in your house, as I believe that a location at a specific time or moment can feel like ‘home’. The feeling of home to me is a place that feels familiar and comforting. I have this feeling in my childhood home in Shropshire, the initial feeling when I moved to Brighton which disappeared after a few months. The feeling reappeared after saw the Seven Sisters when I moved away from Brighton with my partner. Place I’ve visited on holiday and I also have the feeling for a place I’ve never visited before. I constantly center my life around Japan, I consume it via Youtube Vloggers, My art and design,  and even the place I work is inspired by Japanese Kawaii culture. Apart of myself feels at home in a place I’ve never visited which is something I wanted to explore in final Project but struggled to express in my research project.
