Members of our Formula Student team, Brighton Racing Motors, have turned their hands to fashion by collaborating with Brighton alumnus Gresham Blake.
The students will wear bespoke shirts made by Blake’s company when they race the car they have designed and built at Silverstone circuit as part of the Formula Student competition from July 17 to 21.
Formula Student sees over 100 university teams from around the world travel to Silverstone to compete in events that will test their preparation and engineering skills.
The engineering students will also wear the Gresham Blake garments at public-facing events such as Open Days and the Brighton Speed Trials.
Explaining how the collaboration came about, Dr Daniel Coren, Coordinator of Brighton Racing Motors, said: “Our team members were keen to arrive at the Silverstone competition event with smart, formal dresswear.
“Taking advantage of the creative industries in our local environment – the city of Brighton – we identified and made contact with tailors from Brighton graduate Gresham Blake’s fashion company. Gresham turned out to be a car fan and everything fell into the place from there.”
Alex Gander, one of the Brighton Racing Motors students, said it felt “amazing” to be wearing the Gresham Blake designs. Alex said: “Now that everyone on the team has one of the dress shirts, we really look like a unified body of professionals working hard to achieve something great.
“Wearing these shirts at the competition in July will be a true celebration of all we have achieved. It will be a time to reflect on all the hard work we have put in and the memories will last a lifetime.”
