Fine Art Senior Lecturer Mick Hawksworth has book on Lewes published

Mick Hawksworth worked has designed a new book working with two co-editors and sixteen local authors, “The Pells of Lewes”. It is a vivid portrayal of a green neighbourhood in the county town of East Sussex. It traces long-gone features – from ancient burial mounds, sacred springs and medieval swanneries, to a paper mill and iron works. The book describes the natural history of the landscape as well as the Victorian development of streets, a church, park, swimming pool, pub and school – all still valued today. Maps, photographs, documents and artwork illustrate the stories from residents past and present.

“The Pells of Lewes” sold out within a month but the 2nd edition can be ordered from leweshistory.org.uk.
