Useful Information about Turnitin

Useful Information

  • There have been some reports from students who have had problems with the upload process to Turnitin when submitting their papers: the screen becomes unresponsive (freezes) or the uploading screen remains on the screen for more than 2 minutes. This issue is likely to be caused by cookie management settings, and can happen with any browser. It seems that Turnitin cookies are perceived as third party cookies. This issue has been most common in Safari, where the default setting is to block cookies from third parties.
    • Solution: ask students to update browser preferences to allow third party cookies. Next, log back in and try again to submit the paper. Even though the problem can occur in any browser, it occurs less often in Firefox.  The Turnitin engineers are still investigating and aim to find a fix soon.  Click the following links for information about how to allow third party cookies:
  • When students submit their papers to Turnitin, they can choose to upload from Dropbox or Google Drive, as well as from their computer (or storage device): click here for more information.

I have been working in the Educational Technology field within Higher Education for eleven years. A big part of my job is finding new and innovative ways of integrating technology into current teaching and learning methodology. This can include assisting academic staff with Virtual Learning Environments/Learning Management Systems (Blackboard), implementing specific software packages, maximising current technologies and championing new ones. I find this profession both riveting and rewarding. I really enjoy life on the cutting edge, but I also enjoy being able to help staff achieve small and meaningful efficiencies; sometimes that makes all the difference.
