Mayfield building, room 129

All welcome

Barry Percy-Smith Professor of Childhood, Youth and Participatory Practice, Specialist in Children’s Participation and Action Inquiry approaches to Evaluation, and Director of the Centre for Applied Childhood Youth and Family Research, University of Huddersfield. His paper is on Supporting the participation and empowerment of (marginalised) young people using action research.

Barry will reflect on the state of play with participation talking about some key developments on thinking and practice, then draw on some different research projects to explore some of the realities of participation in practice and raise some (critical) questions from those. He will end with some concluding thoughts on the praxis of participation.

In addition, he has also very generously offered a space for staff and students to share and reflect on experience and be a resource to support use of participatory approaches, immediately following the seminar.
