PASS Leaders and AST Awards

Well done to students studying on the Primary Education with QTS BA(Hons) courses and the Education MA who recently received certificates for their roles within our Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) and Assignment Support Team (AST) schemes.

PASS is a student-led initiative where issues relating to course material and student life can be discussed in a friendly, informal environment with peers and trained student ambassadors. It also provides an opportunity to make new friends whilst studying in small group sessions with around 10-15 students and two student leaders.

The AST is run by a group of Education MA students, who offer 30 minute individual sessions in person, on the phone or by video call. The sessions focus on academic writing style, referencing, engagement with the literature, presentation skills as well as preparing for placement.

Students were awarded for successfully leading study sessions with first year students over the past academic year, providing support with course content materials as well as helping to develop study skills and confidence.

Melanie Gill, Student Experience Champion and Student Support and Guidance Tutor said: “It is always great to present the certificates to these students who have made such a commitment to supporting our first years.”

Both PASS Leaders and AST gain confidence in leadership and organisation skills, group management and time management – all desirable qualities which will help them find employment.
