Education BA Conference

Now in its sixth year, the Education BA conference is an annual event held for all three years of the degree programme.

The day celebrates students as researchers and provides an opportunity to share the outcomes of student-led enquiry and research that has been conducted over the course of the year.
Ed BA Conference USEThis year’s event was opened by Katie Fowler, who graduated from the Education BA(Hons) degree in the summer of 2015 with 1st class Honours and is currently studying Religious Studies (Secondary) PGCE. Her keynote drew from her dissertation entitled: A phenomenological case study into the development of gender identity.

The day evolves around students who take an active role in the event holding a series of presentations and discussions throughout the day, highlighting their experiences.

Peter Venables, Director of the University of Brighton International College said: “I found it a really interesting, engaging morning, and it was a very interesting set of presentations from your second years, across a broad range of experiences and research areas – Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), early years, drama, and my own area, international; looking at motivation, behaviour and learning, learner expectations etc.

“What I thought was common to all of the presentations, however, was the level of quality – how well-researched they were, how well the students spoke and responded to questioning. Indeed, the discussions that followed from the presentations were often the most engaging part of the morning.”

“Virtually all students were participating in the discussions, with the Y1s and Y3s responding in different ways to the Y2s presenting, and all students learning from each other. They came across as a very impressive, engaged group of students. I imagine they all find this both an invaluable learning experience and a pleasant and fitting end to a very busy year!”

The Education BA(Hons) significantly enhances prospects, opening doors to further study as well as professional employment. Many of our students choose to stay with us after graduation, securing places on our PGCE and MA courses as the next step towards their career in education.
