An ECHO grant of £850 was awarded to Alex Bliss -Senior Sport and Exercise Science Support Officer / Science Consultancy Unit (SESCU) Manager- to host a seminar for students, staff and visitors during September 2015.
Dr Craig Roberts (team doctor) and Basil Carzis (strength and conditioning coach) from the Springboks backroom team gave an informative and entertaining lecture and Q&A session on the sports science support available to a world class rugby team. The event was organised by the Sport and Exercise Consultancy Unit.
It was attended by 200 people including academics, coaches, teachers and enthusiasts from all over Sussex- thanks to the promotional materials funded by the ECHO grant. The seminar was followed by a drinks reception where members of the Springbok staff were accessible to delegates to chat informally.
The South Africa Rugby Seminar will display to the wider community the high-profile, elite-level sport that can be attracted to Eastbourne as a result of the University’s excellence in a number of areas including facilities, staff knowledge and expertise, and the quality of Eastbourne as a location for a training base. The seminar also provided a showcase to the wider community of the links that are existing between the University and other important partners such as Eastbourne College, Eastbourne Borough Council and others.
