For the first afternoon at University we had fun providing creative designs for our Solar Decathlon Project designing environmentally friendly houses for Brighton and Hungary. The knowledge and enthusiasm of the students surpassed our own expectations and great team spirit was in abundance.
Lecturers from our school, Della Madgwick, Dr Ruoyo Jin and Dr Mahmood Alam, travelled to Debrecen, Eastern Hungary in September to meet with Dr Kalmar Ferenc and his colleagues at our Partner University to discuss plans for our Solar decathlon project. Read More →
In August Dr Hannah Wood presented at the International Council For Research and Innovation in Construction: Coping with the Complexity of Safety, Health, and Wellbeing in Construction conference, in Salvador, Brazil. The conference was attended by academics and industry professional from all over the world.

Given that the UK already lags behind other countries in construction productivity, and is facing a labour shortage, the Government and the construction sector must urgently find solutions.”
Architectural Technology BSc(Hons) graduates have scooped a technical design award for renovation and extension of a Grade 2 listed building.
The team, from Cityzen, the architecture and engineering practice in Portslade, beat competition from across the region to win the Best Extension or Alteration category in this year’s Local Authority Building Control South East Awards.
All winners progress to the Grand Finals to be held in London later this year.
A commitment to promote the careers of women has won the University of Brighton’s School of Environment and Technology (SET) a national award.
SET has received a Bronze Award from the Equality Challenge Unit’s Athena SWAN Charter which was established in 2005 to encourage efforts to advance women’s careers in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research.
A Silver Award was achieved by the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), run jointly by the universities of Brighton and Sussex. The awards are valid for four years during which both schools will implement a robust action plan to progress gender equality in their schools. The schools join the University of Brighton’s School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Science in holding a school level Athena SWAN award.
Professor Tara Dean, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise, is Chair of the Athena SWAN Steering Group and is University of Brighton’s Gender Equality Champion. She said: “We are very proud that both SET and BSMS have been formally recognised for their commitment to promoting gender equality by attaining the prestigious Athena SWAN Bronze and Silver awards respectively.
“The awards are a tribute to the hard work of the many staff in putting strategies in place to support gender equality, and the genuine institutional commitment to this endeavour.” Read More →
