  •  12-month Gallery Volunteering Placements, Fabrica Gallery

Fabrica is delighted offer two year-long volunteering placements to motivated and proactive students interested in working at a vibrant contemporary art gallery in the heart of Brighton. During the placement you will gain front-of-house and behind-the-scenes knowledge and experience in: administration, recruitment, volunteer management, events organisation, education, participation, fundraising, data collation, audience development as well as exhibition marketing, installation, invigilation and interpretation. Deadline to apply is by 5pm, Friday 2nd December 2016 – please contact Active Student at least 5 days before to allow time for an application.

Time commitment: Placement 1 will run Jan-Dec 2017. Placement 2 will run Apr 2017 – Mar 2018. Each will require you to volunteer for 8 hours per week.

Location: Brighton.

 

  • Museum Receptionist Volunteer, Brighton Toy and Model Museum

A treasure trove of toys and models that extends over four thousand square feet of floor space, through four of the Early Victorian arches supporting Brighton Railway Station’s forecourt. Your role is to greet the customers and answer their questions concerning the Museum or the City (tourist information point). You sell the entries and the toys from the shop area. You are also asked to check the state of the Museum and help with cleaning up. You provide information to the customers about our events and memberships.

Time commitment: Days/times to be mutually agreed.

Location: Brighton.

 

  • Arts Connect Volunteer 2016-17, Culture Shift

A programme of activities designed to support adults with learning disabilities to engage in the arts and develop their talent and interests. Commissioned by East Sussex County Council, Arts Council England and other funders. We are looking to recruit up to 10 volunteers, with groups of 3-4 volunteers supporting each of the Get Creative courses and Get Connected events. On the courses, you will work alongside a lead artist and our project coordinator, Julia Roberts and support participants on a 1-1 basis, or small group basis, with supervision and support from the two project leaders.

Time commitment: Various dates until June 2017.

Location: Lewes, Bexhill, Hastings, Crowborough and Eastbourne. Mutually agreed, in advance, travel expenses can be paid (up to £15 per session).

 

  • Arts and Crafts Member Activities Volunteer, Blind Veterans UK

Blind Veterans UK was founded in 1915 to provide rehabilitation, training and lifelong support to those blinded in the First World War. Since then we have helped over 15,000 ex-Service men and women who have lost their sight. This role is to support our members take part in a range of activities and to escort them on day trips from the centre. Activities include: Painting, Drawing, Ceramics, Mosaics, Woodturning, Sculpture and Photography.

Time commitment: 1-3 hours per week, fortnight or monthly, with a minimum of 6-12 months overall.

Location: Just along the seafront from Brighton town centre, easily accessible by bus, bike or car.

 

  • Kids Class Volunteer, Sew Fabulous

Sew Fabulous is a sewing studio located in Brighton Open Market. We run classes for adults, teens and kids, funded classes for local low waged/unemployed adults and have a repairs, alterations and sewing service. The role is to: prepare resources for the class (with guidance from teacher), assist in the delivery of the class, tidy up and debrief and update social media with photos from the class.

Time commitment: 1.5 hours on a Wednesday 4-5.30pm, plus time spent planning and debriefing. Total of 2-3 hours a week for 3 months overall.

Location: Brighton.

 

  • Workshop Assistant Volunteer, Open Strings CIC

A Brighton-based social enterprise which has been running community music projects in the city and beyond since 2013. We offer participatory music as a tool for connection in a variety of community-based settings: for mental health, with older people, with people with learning disabilities, and with people with dementia and their carers. We would like a volunteer to join our delivery team for Sing Healthy Play Happy, working alongside two facilitators for ten weekly sessions in a senior (AKA sheltered) housing scheme in East Brighton.

Time commitment: 3 hours a week for 10 weeks overall.

Location: Brighton.

 

  • Film Maker and Promotion Assistant Volunteer, Four Centres CIC

The 4 Centres CIC exists to support the role four community centres, helping them to engage with the local community and helping them to become more sustainable in the long term. We would like a volunteer to make a promotional film about the work of the centres. It would focus on the successes and challenges and feature some service users who have benefitted from using them.

Time commitment: Flexible, dependent upon completion of the project.

Location: Hastings area.
