As you head towards the summer break and start planning next year’s teaching, it might be the time to consider how to make your teaching sessions more interactive and engaging, based on a sound pedagogic rationale. These sessions are an opportunity to gain ideas and confidence in new technologies as part of a blended learning approach, and can contribute to your engagement with the Blended Learning theme of the Curriculum Design Framework.

Wednesday 5 July 2017 (1.00 – 2.00 pm)

Room 808, Cockcroft Building, Moulsecoomb

This session considers how to increase student engagement through planning sessions around 15-20 minute blocks, increasing interactivity using tools such as Nearpod and Kahoot!, and finding ways of bringing the outside world into teaching spaces through using video, Periscope and Google cardboard. Whether preparing for seminars, small lectures or large lectures there will be some ideas here for you.

Blended Learning: using mobile technologies in the classroom

Monday 10 July 2017 (1.00 – 2.00 pm)

Room 808, Cockcroft Building, Moulsecoomb

This session is an opportunity to explore how mobile devices can change classroom dynamics through increasing student input through using interactive tools such as Nearpod, and students capturing and sharing images and video.  The session will discuss the challenges of student mobile technology use including the Turn It On Policy, and there will be the opportunity to transform your existing PowerPoints into interactive Nearpod presentations.
