Industrial visit to Jaguar in Birmingham

Jaguar, Birmingham

Every year Logistics and Supply Chain Management MSc students visit the Jaguar factory in Birmingham.

Pictures inside the factory aren’t allowed, but you can see the journey and some of the fast food eaten on the way!

The visit gives some insights into the complexity of automotive logistics and lean manufacturing in practice.

We also take a short tour of the Birmingham canals, an historic transport system that is, once again, gaining attention as a potential low carbon transportation solution.

Liz Earle, Isle of Wight

In March, we visited a natural beauty products company Liz Earle on the Isle of Wight (by hovercraft).

The company has a big e-tailing operation as well as distribution through Boots the Chemist and John Lewis.

The visit allowed students to see the pick and pack operation, as well as the underpinning warehouse management activities.

Students had a great opportunity to talk to managers about the strategic challenges of running an expanding multi-channel supply chain.
