Creating a true profession – networking with our accrediting bodies

On Thursday 17 November, the school welcomed ten of our accrediting bodies to a professional networking event designed to share knowledge and best practice. This event was led by cohost, Chartered Management Institute, and attracted over 100 delegates with a mix of business professionals and Management MSc students.

Each year,  Brighton’s Business School hosts two networking events involving 10 professional associations:

Clare Forder and Viki Falkner promoting our placement opportunities and Apprenticeship courses during the networking session.

The theme of the evening was to offer opportunities for cross sector networking and exchange of relevant for continuing professional development sector information, whilst sharing best business practice.

Each event is cohosted by a different professional body, Simon Bowen Director of Membership Engagement from Chartered Management Institute. Simon’s  presentation, titled ‘Creating a true profession’, focused on engendering a management strategy that is emergent rather than hierarchical and that is disruptive rather than planned.

Simon summarised his presentation with five key takeaways for management implementation:

  1. Stop Excluding – Start Including
  2. Stop Controlling – Start Coaching
  3. Stop Confusing – Start Clarifying
  4. Stop Resisting Change – Start Embracing it
  5. Stop Competing – Start Collaborating

For a copy of the presentation, please email Clifford Conway, Deputy Head of Postgraduate and Professional courses.

The next event is on the 25 May co-hosted with the ACCA,  theme and title to be announced in early 2017.
